Athlone Community Radio Athlone Community Radio was formed in 2006 as a steering group comprised of individuals from a number of community organisations who saw that a community radio station would serve the interests of their clients and the general public of Athlone and its environs.

AIM

Athlone Community Radio Ltd aims to operate a Community Radio Station for the benefit of the community of Athlone which aims to entertain, engage and inform its listenership. Its activities and programming are based on community ownership, access and participation, and aims to reflect the special interests and needs of this community, in line with the community ethos of the BAI licence and the AMARC charter.

OBJECTIVES

include training of an adequate number of volunteers and staff, establishing the station as a going concern, and developing the station to the highest professional standards in order to best serve the broad community of Athlone. In addition to the above, the achievements of the committee to date include the formation of a legal company structure for the project; securing funding for training of volunteers and staff; securing a premises for the studio; successful completion of the formal application to the BAI for two temporary broadcasting licenses; successful application to the BAI for full 10 year license; and preparation of numerous applications for funding.
