How did you get involved with Athlone Community Radio?

Four years ago the local paper in Athlone had a piece about a new radio station coming to Athlone and that they were looking for volunteers. When I saw this I immediately got in touch by phone and gave them my details. They said that they were having a meeting in the Shamrock Lodge hotel in Athlone and anyone could come who was interested.

How has ACR made a difference to your life?

ACR has made a great difference to my life:

• I got to meet friends.
• I got more training.
• I built up my confidence.
• I learned to express myself
• I got a distinction on Fetac level 5 radio production
• I actually got to run my own show

What do you like about ACR?

What I love about ACR is:

• We are all treated the same
• You are always greeted with a smile and a cuppa.
• It’s a radio station for the people of Athlone and the surrounding areas.
• They help you step by step with any difficulty you may have.

What have you accomplished at ACR?

I have done everything here at ACR thankfully. I have been involved with editing, vox pops, interviews and created a clip to advertise ACR. I actually did my own show. Now at present I am doing a show called Best Of The Week, meaning taking the best clips of other presenters shows from Monday to Friday and let the listeners get a preview of what was going on during the week.

I just want to say that I would like to thank ACR for their hospitality and getting me to where I am now. And they are always looking for new volunteers. You don’t need experience at all!
