Volunteer Ireland’s vision is for an Irish society in which everyone who wants to, has access to meaningful volunteering opportunities and where the contribution of volunteering is valued and recognised as an intrinsic component of active citizenship. Volunteer Ireland work to inspire, promote, support and celebrate voluntary activity in Ireland and abroad and is the national co-ordinating body for European Year of Volunteering.

Westmeath Volunteer Centre

In early 2006, Westmeath Community Development, Westmeath County Council, Athlone Community Taskforce and The Westmeath Community and Voluntary Forum were successful in their request to the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs for funding of a project to set up a Volunteer Centre for County Westmeath. In May, Ian O’Flynn joined the project as it’s coordinator and over the summer months, with the support of the Steering Committee completed much of the groundwork and policy creation in preparation for the establishment of the Westmeath Volunteer Centre.

Westmeath Volunteer Centre is a member of Volunteer Centres Ireland.

A database of all groups and volunteers in Westmeath has been put together and many volunteers have called Ian to register their availability.
