The aim of the Leisure Buddies programme within St Hilda's Services in Athlone is to form friendships between volunteers and people with an intellectual disability who need support to socialise in the community
In addition - to the one-to-one prgramme - St Hilda's need volunteers that have a practical skill to offer a group of clients: arts & crafts, drama, fitness, walking tours in Athlone, music, DJs, Storytelling, or anything else YOU may have as a skill that could enhance the lives of the clients of St Hilda's Services. Athlone Community Radio is a not for profit community radio station which serves Athlone and its surrounding areas. It has been granted its full broadcasting licence by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. Community Radio is owned and run by the community for the community and is dependent on volunteers. When you sign up to volunteer with ACR we provide training to enable you to work within the station. It's a great opportunity to free your creativity, HAVE A LAUGH and do something completely different with your life. Athlone Community Radio’s activities and programming are based on community ownership, access and participation and reflect the special interests and needs of our community.

- Athlone Community Radio enables people to enhance their capacity to play a role in shaping the society of which they are a part. It achieves this by recruiting volunteers and training them in the area of radio in which they show an interest and helps these volunteers discover their potential. Participation and involvement is open to all members of the community.

Do you love sport?
If you have an interest in sport and want to be part of a team then this is your chance to get involved in a challenging an rewarding environment by joining our sports department here in Athlone Community Radio.
The station is looking for highly motivated and creative volunteers for our two sports shows:
- "The Fixtures List" which previews all of the major sporting action over the weekend
- "The Final Whistle" which rounds up results and reactions from all teams and sports from around Athlone
There are a variety of areas with which you can get involved in such as:
SHOW HOSTING (Presenting or co-hosting the show)
FIELD REPORTING (getting the thoughts from players and managers for both pre and post programmes as well as reporting from sports organisations around the town)
EDITING(Cleaning up and polishing off interviews for the show)
TECHNICAL (Helping to operate and co-ordinate the shows)
RESEARCH (compiling the latest stats such as fixtures, results, injury news etc...)
All training will be provided FREE by the station and all volunteers are free to spend as much are as little time at the station as they wish once you are committed.
